Situation: The OPETs contract vehicle needed a simple and clear way to streamline the travel request workflow for their large variety of contracted employees as well as the company personnel that support them. The current process required that contractors fill out a PDF form and email it to three different approvers. This process proved to be tedious for the Government and often caused significant delay.
Action: AVATAR developed a responsive web application using the .Net MVC Framework, that fully automates the existing OPETS travel request approval process. The O-T-R application allows potential travelers to submit travel requests to be approved sequentially in the order of, Government Lead, Site Supervisor, and Government Technical Managers (GTM) without a pdf form or subsequent email.
The role-based application provides each role with only the necessary functionality permitted to complete that roles function in the approval process. This allows for the ultimate ease of use for each user. In addition to the four functional roles of the approval process, an Administrator was created to accomplish tasks such as adding and removing new users. The application is currently hosted by Arvixe (in accordance with Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), has an active SSL certificate for secure use, and was developed utilizing solution architecture that complies with DoD Information Enterprise Architecture.
Result:The system has over 700 active users and has supported nearly 100 trips sense its release in Nov of 2015. The system has garnered much praise for its simplicity and AVATAR’s ability to quickly satisfy all user needs.
